question re: usage/installation

on the installation steps, there is this note: "we don't recommend this tool to point to your production SQL Server. "

so...we cannot use this tool to run diagnostics on our production server?  that doesn't make sense.

The caution has to do with doing the *analysis* of the collected data on your production server.  Some of the analysis queries can be expensive.  You capture the data on your production server with SQLDIAG.  Then, assuming that you want to minimize any impact to prod, you load that data (with SQL Nexus) and analyze it on a different machine. 

Of course you can do the data load and analysis on the same server that you captured the data from, if that server is not mission critical and has some spare capacity.  It's up to you.
